Comedian Nick Cannon divorces Mariah Carey

Many Washington residents, as well as the rest of the world, have followed the romance between Nick Cannon and singing superstar Mariah Carey. Their relationship made it to the altar and they have since been blessed with twins. However, the romance took a sour turn last summer and speculation about their split swirled in social media circles. Apparently, the rumors of the impending end to their marriage have proven correct. Nick Cannon apparently filed for divorce first.

The 34-year-old comedian reportedly filed the separation papers on December 12th of 2014. The Grammy-award winning Carey was in the headlines earlier that same month, albeit not in a good way. She was criticized for being tardy to film a segment of a Christmas tree lighting event. The singer, who has millions of Twitter followers, later apologized on social media. Apparently, the stress of her marriage got to Carey, who is known for her signature high notes, as she was unable to hit those notes during the performance that night.

Although the terms of the split were not disclosed, it is expected to be a high asset divorce. The 44-year-old Carey is one of the highest paid superstars in the music industry and also occasionally makes movies. Cannon, on the other hand, is a comedian who became famous for his stint on the Nickelodeon cable channel. He has also starred in films and has tried his hand at music. Therefore, the couple likely has significant assets with which they must deal. The now-former couple got married in April 2008. Their twins are now three years old.

Although many Washington couples may not be as wealthy as many A-list celebrities, they may still face divorce issues like property division, spousal support and child custody. Sound family law guidance may help couples effectively sort out such matters in a fair way. Issues can also become easier to settle if they have a prenuptial or postnuptial agreement in place.
